1. Installing the program

- Launch "InstallWinUAE2310.exe"
- Default folder where files are copied: c:/Users/Public/Public Documents/Amiga Files/WinUAE
- Copy the following files in this directory:
		- Kickstart 1.3 (Kickstart is the ROM memory of the Amiga. The emulator will not work without a Kickstart. There are several versions depending on the Amiga model you want to emulate. The Amiga 500 is the most common version, and works with Kickstart 1.3)
		- Game programs or others (these are ADF-type files. Some games needed several disks, thus you'll find one file per disk)
- In the Configurations folder, copy the configuration file "A500.uae", set to work like an Amiga 500.

2. Load a configuration

- At launch, the program may warn you that a ROM file is required. Click OK.
- The program's main window is displayed.
- Click on "Configurations", 5th line in the column on the left.
- In the right-hand window, select "A500 (UAE default configuration)", then click on "Load" at the bottom. This will load the Amiga 500 settings, including the required Kickstart 1.3 ROM. Warning, if you double-click on "A500 (UAE default configuration)" instead of simple-clicking and click on "Load", the emulator will launch the Amiga start screen, from which there isn't anything you can do (except hit the F12 key to display the menu).

3. Use a joystick
- The simplest thing to do with windows is to use an Xbox 360 controller, since it's easily detected by WinUAE.
- Click on "Input" in the column on the left, and if it isn't already selected by default, click on the top right and select Xbox 360 in the drop-down menu.

4. Start a game

- Click on "Floppy Drives" in the column on the left.
(The Amiga could manage 4 disk drives called DF0:, DF1:, DF2: and DF3:. The "A500" configuration file is set for 2 disk drives, which should be enough for almost anything. Some multi-disk games could not detect several drives, so you had to use only one drive anyway, even if you had connected additional drives.)
- Click on the 3-dot icon from drive DF0: (top right, next to the "Eject" button) in order to select a disk file.
- Pick an ADF file. It now appears in the DF0: drive section.
- To start the program, click on the "Start" button at the bottom.
- WinUAE Emulates the characteristic sound from the Amiga disk drive (this can be turned on or off). It is activated in the configuration file. The read speed is also set at 800% in order to speed up the loading of the files. Some programs may not load because of that, but this doesn't happen often.

5. Swap disk when playing
- If you play a multi-disk game, the program will ask you to swap disks at some point and insert the next disk.
- Press the F12 key on your keyboard. This will pause the program and display WinUAE's menu.
- Click on "Floppy Drives" in the column on the left.
- Click on the 3-dot icon in the DF0: drive section to select the required disk file (disk 2, or 3...).
- Click on OK to go back to the program.
- The disk will now read, either automatically, or after you have pressed the appropriate key or button (depends on the program).

GOOD TO KNOW
* F12 will display the emulator menu at any time
* Clicking on the central button of the mouse (mouse wheel) while using a program will "free" the mouse cursor, so you can use it normally within Windows, but this doesn't stop the on-going Amiga program. To go back to the program, simply click within the emulator window.
* Many games first load an intro sequence, generally it's a music with a scrolling text and some graphic effects, added by the hackers who cracked the game. To skip the intro, each program reacts differently. Sometimes, you have to click on a mouse button (right or left, or sometimes both), or hit a key on the keyboard (space bar, Enter key, function key F1 through F8 are the most common ones), sometimes you have to press a joystick button.
